DJs Fresh, Euphonik Taken off Radio
Thato “DJ Fresh” Sikwane and Themba “DJ Euphonik” Nkosi have been taken off the radio airwaves, following rape allegations made against them on social media.
Last Monday, 11 January, Sipelele Madikizela took to Twitter and accused the pair – who work for radio station, 947 – of drugging and raping her during a party in 2011.
Four days later, Gauteng authorities confirmed that she had officially opened a case at Sunnyside police station.
Speaking to a media outlet on Sunday, 17 January, Geraint Crwys-Williams – the acting CEO of Primedia Broadcasting, which owns 947 – revealed that DJs Fresh and Euphonik will be off-air while the police conduct their investigations.
Crwys-Williams explained: “We take these matters extremely seriously and apply a rigorous, systematic internal process to assess them. Primedia Broadcasting, DJ Fresh and Euphonik have reached a mutual decision for both DJs [sic] to come off-air in order to focus on addressing this matter.”
He added: “We stand firmly against any sort of violence against women, and we continue to advocate for justice.”
